A Computer Assisted Tomography examination, also call a CAT Scan or CT scan utilizes x-ray (radiation) techniques to create detailed images of the body. A computer then constructs cross section images also called “slices” of bone, soft tissue and blood vessels within the body.
A registered and licensed Radiology Technologist who specializes in CT will greet you. You may be asked to change into a patient gown before being taken into the CT examination room and asked to lie down on the table. Most CT scans take 15- minutes
CT examinations can be ordered with, without and with and without contrast. Some CT examinations are ordered with oral (by mouth) and/or intravenous ( IV injected into an arm vein) contrast to improve the Radiologist’s ability to see the anatomy within the body more clearly.
A Board-Certified fellowship trained Radiologist (a MD) will interpret (read) your examination and fax a report to your physician within 2 to 4-hours.
Several Non emergent services such as an MRI or surgery require pre authorization by your insurance company to ensure the medical necessity and that the service is covered by your plan.
